Now, I tend to lean toward architectural purism, but at the same time feel, unless a house is of some historic importance, nothing is exactly architecturally sacrosanct.That said, most bathrooms are usually on the side or the rear of the house, where I feel there is more latitude for minor updating.So, I usually install a wide but skinny gun slit close to the ceiling with a jalousie window (or split it into two jalousies), so the bottom is well above head-height.

But after I had measured several dozen of these houses I could see the patterns of construction and had a better understanding of how things were built.I still think back to the lessons I learned measuring those houses in my work now. ( maybe even more than my architecture classes in college)
