Just wondering if there are any meetups in Colorado Springs between Investors or what not so I can learn a few things and have some guidance.

This was my first serious bad experience with a contractor, and despite checking references, having a written contract, and this being a friend of an acquaintance, let's just say there were some lessons learned of what not to do, and leave it at that. 

Maybe later you'll end up using what they say or maybe it will remind you of what not to do.
