The company has a points-based system, where members receive a certain amount annually, and they can then bank those points for up to a year and use them to reserve time at various resorts around the world.I have been dragooned into assisting them with defraying timeshare costs by trying to figure out how to rent out the unused points so that they don't go to waste, before I dive into this myself, I wanted to find out if anyone else has experience with vacation rentals with this set-up.

If you set up a "checkbook LLC" for your SDIRA, then I believe (check first with your custodian and/or attorney) that you would be able to invest directly as the manager of your LLC (using the LLC's account), without going through your custodian.On the other hand, that ability to quickly invest can be a double edged sword, since I think the delay can be a good thing (it forces me to think more carefully about the syndication and take the time to make sure it's a good investment for my SDIRA).

The problem with these set ups is you agree to keep your mouth shut if things go bad, but be an advocator if things go well.That's in the language when you deal some of these turnkey folks.
