@Mark S.Totally agree people should own real estate in and out of a retirement account for that exact reason. 

I just expect my mark to market on all my houses to be flat to +/- 5%.

For example, Decatur and Hartselle, which are located about 25 and 35 miles southwest of Huntsville, respectively, both have plenty of properties below the $250,000 mark.
