I do empathize with pet owners as when I was returning to grad school I found myself sitting on the curb  contemplating what we were going to do about our dog whom we could not find a place that would take him. 

I contemplate doing that all the time.

Apparently that is more "doing what it takes" than most are willing to contemplate.  

Also we need to contemplate exactly what we are thankful for.
