Wage garnishment , attach any bank accounts , and or vehicles 

I recently started with a new company that is paying for my housing, vehicle, and fuel.

This means that someone who makes $43,000/year would now eligible to buy this room condo, and have access to a vehicle through which to build equity in an asset as an alternative to paying rent. 

It is definitely not "passive", but it is still a great investment vehicle.   

It sounds like you're a high earner looking for a strictly passive investment vehicle, and replacing that seed money isn't as important as it may be to others. 

The building next to yours looks much nicer and has THREE security vehicles parked in front.

It is my understanding there are multiple investment vehicles in play.

Better yet, encourage her to make a clean break....perfect time for a fresh start.Also townhomes are rarely a good investment vehicle. 

I have several vehicles and lots of stuff in general and a wife that would not be ok with a duplex.  

You have to be up front about how the property is being used.Also, remember that umbrella insurance will not do anything for you if the underlying property or vehicle is not insured correctly.
