The system is what's really broken:1) S8 should have a time limit - get free housing to get your life in order and move on.2) S8 should have strong requirements for taking care of the home taxpayers are paying the rent for. --- We haven't seen a S8 inspection report in over a decade that required a tenant to fix damages they obviously caused.

Living in the property for two years likely allowed you to claim the capital gains exclusion... up to $250K for singles or $500K if married.

Most of my renters are nurses, engineers, and tax payer funded employees (Government workers). 

That’s one of the reasons I opened the discussion where and how I did.. if I had a certain strategy I was married to I probably would post it in the classifieds.
