I spent about ten years of my childhood in Reseda/Tarzana area and went to high school in Encino. 

(owner occupying at least one unit)  This is the path I used to get out of the poverty of my childhood. 

My in-laws own a house in San Francisco and my childhood best friend bought in Mill Valley a few years ago so I'm at least familiar with the market there. 

Actually, it was my wife who initiated the idea to invest in rental properties and her impoverished childhood keeps us anchored on the conservative lower risk side of the equation, which is OK for me. 

I first learned about real estate at the age of 9 years old from a childhood friend on mine father.
