So you can address the issue, but not go overboard by spreading lime to kill the odor.  

When the tenant calls to say the toilet is overflowing, saying the furnace will not stay on (and its 2degres F outside), you can't reply, I'll make an appointment for this coming Friday.Walk before you try to run, get some real life experience.In the words of Theodor Roosevelt, "Walk softly and carry a big stick".Don't want to rain on your parade - - really and wishing you nothing but success.

Stuffed the carpet into the trash can and still almost had an asthma attack from the odor.  

If the walls were cleaned then the "Odor seal" primer was an elective step and will probably be considered "Normal wear and tear". 

If the odor is not properly mitigated that will cause ongoing problems.

Claim the odor is making you sick, affecting your sleep, whatever.
