If it is still classified as active farmland and your friend has Canadian citizenship then he may be able to use his lifetime capital gains exemption to reduce the amount of capital gains due.   

@Michaela G. when you are talking about undocumented, are you referring to people who do not have citizenship or a green card? 

If you held Indonesian or Malaysian citizenship, you would have a big leg up in those markets.

Do your in-laws have US citizenship? 

You should definitely look into investing out of state, especially if your wife has an American citizenship, that may allow you to structure your business in a more strategic way.

Hi Andrew, thank you for taking the time, I’m a foreign citizen, I don’t live in the US and I don’t have any US citizenship so I won’t qualify for any home buyer loan and I don’t have a credit score which makes it all a little bit more complicated.

Luckily I have dual citizenship so I didn't have to worry about this where we bought. 

I have read the Ultimate Screening Guide and written a basic set of screening requirements but still have some questions that hoping someone could help answer (maybe before I have to hire an attorney). 1) On the tenant resource center page (http://www.tenantresourcecenter.org/discrimination) I found what seems to say that "unemployment" is a protected class in the city of Madison: Madison includes all extra classes in Dane County plus: Citizenship Status (City of Madison only)Genetic Identity (City of Madison only)the fact that a person declines to disclose their social security numberAtheismHomelessnessUnemploymentThat seems a little odd to me.
