Heath Thomas is correct. Don't know of any state that Allows Salespersons to register with more than 1 Broker. Brokers on the other hand may be Brokers for more than one company and in some cases can get multiple licenses (at least in FL).

Rachel. Do you plan to use your license to get commissions and work as an agent? ... that is the only reason I would suggest getting it.

It is a lot of logistics: Study (it is like 8 books), schedule, take and pass the exam, find a broker to hang your license with, become a member of a local (regional ) Board of Realtors, subscribe to an MLS (or several) ... CA has many different MLS systems (some exchange info with each other, but still very patchy). Each steps requires money and effort and dedication.

Only then you are ready to start. It is a great profession but you have to do it as your career in order for being successful and earn a good living out of it. I have been a Broker for 15 years in FL (also licensed in  CA - recently) and love my profession ... but it is tough out there. Now I joined BiggerPockets because I want to build an investment that I will try to build within the next 15 years to retire.

Real Estate is Beautiful ... but not necessary to have a license to enjoy its benefits.
