Thank you for the responses! I am going to protest myself online first and then go from there. I like the approach of seeking outside help after trying to do it on my own. Thank you again!

I'm looking for recommendations for companies that deal with property tax protests in Tarrant County (Dallas-Fort Worth). I have until May 15th to put in the protest and so far every company I have called only deals with the Austin or Houston market. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I didn't realize how long it has been since my original post so here is an update if anyone is interested. My wife and I ended up going the turnkey route and purchased one SFH in Dallas-Fortworth and one in SFH in Memphis back in June 2018. I know it has only been 4 months, but so far both units are rented out with 2-year leases and we have had no issues to date. Thank you to everyone who reached out to help and provide guidance. After researching Austin for quite a while, I could not find a deal that made sense for me at the price point I was looking for. Although turnkey has been great so far, I would still love to do a deal on my own and learn a little bit more the next time around.

Hey Kyle, I’m a civil engineer in construction in the Bay Area. I recently purchased two SF homes from a reputable turnkey provider. So far so good. I also picked up David’s Greene’s book and hope to try my next deal on my own OOS deal. Goodluck on your real estate journey and it’s good to see other civils out there in the real estate investing world! Bill Robowski

Thanks for reaching out Matthew! I am definitely interested in learning more about the Austin market and what your experience/advice is given the current conditions out there.

I am a newbie interested in buy and hold rentals. I found bigger pockets about a month ago and have been following the forums but nervous to jump in. I listen to the podcasts daily on my commute and it is has definitely motivated me to start taking some action. So far I have met with a friend who has two rentals in Austin, met with a family friend that has 10+ rentals in Arizona, and met with a realtor who has investments in the Sacramento/Antelope area. I set a goal for myself to take action and acquire my first rental in the next 3 months. I have a down payment set aside but I am struggling/falling into analysis paralysis in picking a market. I would like any recommendations for an investor friendly realtor in Austin. My friend with the two rentals in Austin shared the most information about his experience with me and even got into some of the numbers. For that reason, I am drawn to the Austin market because I have seen how it has been able to work for an investor more recently. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. I know I am only at the beginning and still have a lot to learn.
