You locked yourself out and as Nathan said, you were charged way too much to let you in.  Get a second key made and give it to a trusted friend, so if you get locked out again, you can have them come with the key.

What agent at the front desk?  Guessing the person who picked up the phone at the management company.

I suppose it is the leasing agent or something, the person who sits in the front office 9-5 and deals with paperwork. That person doesn't seem to last more that a month or two before a new person comes in

@William Lynch  unless your kid locked you out and wouldn't answer the door, or you had some crazy circumstance other than you just locked yourself out, they will probably be unsympathetic to your cause. My money says they are going to tell you sorry the mailbox was full, but ultimately, it is your responsibility not to lock yourself out.

Also $250 sounds like a lot. How did they get you in, and what time was this?

Darn, the agent at the front desk and the maintenance guy both felt really bad. I am supposed to hear from management on monday. The locksmith tried for 10 minutes using and electric rake and a turning tool to no success. He ended up using an inflatable wedge and a prybar. Thankfully he didn't damage the door...

The other night I got locked out of my apartment. I called my buildings emergency number which prompted me to call a separate number to report a lockout. I called said number and nobody picked up, it rang until voicemail but I couldn't even leave a voicemail because the mailbox was full!! I called three separate times and the same thing happened all three times. I ended up having to call a locksmith to get me into my apartment which cost $250! I feel like it is the responsibility of my building to reimburse me the locksmith cost because they didn't do their job. What should my next steps be. Also I should state that I live in a low income building so it is not like I can just throw around that kind of money here and there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
