Quote from @Bill B.:

It sounds like it couldn’t have come at a better time. The complaint is it’s inhabited and it’s obviously not. (Make sure there we no personal items at all in the space.)

then during/after the inspection ask the inspector. IF I wanted to rent thsi space out what would I have to do? I assume a kitchen? An egress window? And?

Thanks Bill! Can I leave empty cardboards and some wood in the basement?

I recently purchased a 2 flat with basement. The previous owners had a problematic tenant in the first floor who was not paying the rent and ended up opening up several false complaints with the city and eventually left the apartment when the previous owners started eviction process.

The basement is a finished basement and is empty. there’s no kitchen in the basement either. I recently received a notice from the city on the previous owners name to arrange an inspection of the basement as someone reported to city that it’s occupied and it’s not.

I would appreciate if you could share how to handle this? Will the city create any other problems when they inspect the basement?

Thanks In advance !

@Danny Polanski thank you for the connect. @Prashanth Mahakali this property is located in the Albany park zip code 60625, I believe it’s in the ADU pilot areas. I plan on changing the layout of the basement as well. I would love to work with you, what’s the best way to reach out?

Recently purchased a 2 unit brick building with a basement. Basement is fully finished with 2 door for entry and exit. Ceiling hewing the is around 7 feet. No kitchen. Are they are good architects or builders in Chicago who can help get a zoning certification to make it a legal 3 unit? Thanks!
