Hello everyone,
With deciding to start in real estate, my main goal is to create enough equity in the properties I obtain to build a house and buy land (10-12) years down the line.
Though the market always changes, I figured with investing into highly appreciating markets now, the properties I buy will accumulate the equity needed to be able to sell in the future which in turn will lead to the income needed to build and buy land.
As building this house and accumulating land has been something I have always want to be able to pass down in my family, I am worried that to pursue this plan, I will be left with no more real estate assets after this goal is accomplished. I am also concerned because my goal doesn’t create any money (there isn’t any money that building this house will make). I am looking to use the real estate properties cash flow to also build my retirement within this process and I am just not sure how I will be able to build for retirement as well as build my home.
I don’t want to give up on this goal though I also don’t want to sell all my real estate to make it happen. Is there a way to achieve both without having to give up all of the properties in the long run?
Also, I'm not sure which asset class would be good to start in considering my goal and plan. I’m uncertain if single family or multi family properties will hold more equity in the long run or if the equity built is mainly determined by the market you invest in. After listening to some of the Bigger Pockets podcast episodes I have learned that multi families are better with cash flowing but can they also obtain lots of equity over time in the right market ?
