Post: H1B visa holder investing in real estate

Hi,

I'm an H1B visa holder, I'm concerned that  involvement in rental properties will negatively impact my immigration status. I consulted an immigration attorney, I'm aware that there are no restrictions on H1B visa holders buying and managing rental properties (IRS considers rental property investing a passive activity).

However, Do I need to hire a property manager? Can I still take advantage of the tax benefits of real estate investing as an H1B visa holder?

Thank you!!

Juan

Hi Pat,

Thank you for your prompt response.I currently live in Los Angeles, but we are moving to Mississippi in two months. I've been doing a lot of reading and trying to educate myself as much as possible, I'll have a nice W2 income once I start my new position, and it's time for me to start taking action.

Creative financing is something I find fascinating and something I want to master, and it's extremely important to learn from what others like you have been doing, especially when you're new to the game.

I would genuinely appreciate any advice or guidance.

Thank you so much.

Juan

Seller financing deals in Mississippi, has anyone had a good experience willing to share?

Thank you!

Thank you very much Susan, yeah that is the plan. I've also heard that Mississippi is a great place to start investing in real estate. Once I get there, I'll start exploring the deals in the areas you recommended.

Thank you very much for reply and your advice.

Is there a particular area in Jackson that you recommended to start looking? Which ones would you definitely avoid?

Thanks again

Hi!

My wife and I will soon be moving from California to Mississippi, we have been educating ourselves and reading as much as possible to start our real estate investing careers, we are debt free and have saved about $60,000.00 and will start earning $460,000/year ; We are looking to purchase our first rental property and are wondering what advice you have for us in terms of how to get started and where to focus our attention.

Thank you very much for taking your time and for your responses.
