Post: Living in the US, want to invest in the UK

Hi Everyone,

I am a new RE investor and have been a lurker on BP for a few months and just opened an account. I am not sure if this is the right forum to post my question,so please point me to the forum where I can post this.

I have a friend who owns his own RE company that invests in BTL - buy to let - properties in the UK. I am planning to invest alongside him, but I am not sure if it is possible to invest from the US ( currency effects are not a consideration at this point but will consider them later).

Is there someone here who can help me with the following questions

- What are the legal requirements and paperwork needed for US investors?

- How much can an individual, non-accredited investor, invest in the UK?

- What are the tax consequences? Will my income be subject to double taxation?

- Will there be any issues with repatriation of funds at any time?

- What are the legal protections available for US investors?

- If the worst case happens and I am forced to sell my house at a loss, how would it affect my credit history in the US? Any other consequences I should be aware of?

- Any other risks I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance
