Hey everybody,

My name is Tyler and I am a new investor starting out in Columbia, SC. I have been active duty in the Army for almost 8 years now and currently stationed on Fort Jackson. I have been reading and learning from BP for about a year, and the forums, blogs, podcasts, etc. have helped tremendously on giving me the knowledge I needed to close on my first property a few weeks ago. I have been interested in investing in real estate for many years and I was turned on to this site from my uncle who is also an investor. However, once I started reading through all the posts and articles I quickly became extremely overwhelmed by the amount of information that I didn't know, but thought I knew so I ended up unintentionally talking myself out of moving forward any farther. Fast forward to October of 2019 and I had a long conversation with one of my friends' father who is a successful businessman and convinced me to take the plunge and just do it. I ended up closing on a fourplex (really two duplexes split up across three lots), using the VA loan and house hacking one of the units, and still cash flowing around $500 a month even with me living there. This deal has opened my eyes to the power of real estate and the opportunities it can provide and I can't be more excited to expand and grow my portfolio.
