Alex,

Thanks for sharing some valuable advice. As a new investor, I am still trying to determine the right strategy that aligns with my long-term goals. Given the demands of my day-to-day job, I would like to remain passive as much as possible. I will send you a DM to follow. Thanks again.

Quote from @Sean Monahan:

Hi @Tony Herrera,

I have a small suggestion for house hacking that I use today.  I am a nurse turned investor/agent.  Leverage is awesome for real estate but your position can also be a source of leverage.  I would house hack and find traveling professionals to rent to.  Especially if you will be acute care and within the hospital walls I imagine you will run into many traveling professionals to lease to.

Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Sean,
I will reach out with questions for sure. Thanks.

Welcome to BiggerPockets! It's excellent to hear that you're eager in diving into real estate investing, particularly through house hacking in Houston, TX. Absolutely, house hacking is a great way to begin started, especially since it lets you utilise your own home as a rental property.

Here are some pointers to help you find a mentor and get the most out of BiggerPockets as you proceed through your real estate journey:

1. Join Local Real Estate Groups, 2. Engage in BiggerPockets Forums, 3. Attend BiggerPockets Webinars and Events, 4. Utilize the BiggerPockets Marketplace, 5. Reach Out to Local Real Estate Associations, 6. Be Clear About Your Goals

Keep in mind that mentoring may come in many different ways, from official connections to informal guidance from seasoned investors. Keep your mind open to new ideas, persevere, and utilise the plethora of information and tools that BiggerPockets and similar platforms have to offer.

All the best!

Wale,

Thanks for the tips. Which local real estate groups do you recommend in the Houston area?

Jarrod,

Thanks for sharing your investment journey. First, I was unfamiliar with Veena Jetti, so of course, I had to Google her. Someday, I, too, would like to invest out of state, but for now, I am focusing locally on SFH. I am still researching my market area and price point. There is much to learn, but thanks to the BG community, I am confident in knowing what it takes to be a successful investor.

Quote from @Steve Kenney:

Hey Tony,

Welcome to the community! One thing that I did a lot of when I first started out was analyzing deals. I would analyze deals as often as I could. Since you have a Pro membership you have access to the calculators, so the Rental Property calculator works great for that. There is a video on how to use the calculator, but if you have any questions when analyzing a deal let me know!

 Steve,

Thanks for the information for watching the video on how to use the calculators. I was not aware so much appreciated. I agree I need to start analyzing deals to get a better understanding. I’ll definitely hit you up for some tips on that.
