Alysia, filing for bankruptcy  is not the end of the world. Of course the cc companies want you to think so. But you CAN live without credit. I filed in 2001 ,read a bunch of books and learned my lesson. The laws have changed  since  then, but the main thing is to learn from it, and do not fall back into old habits. You aren't  giving us much info , but I know for a fact that what happened  to  you can happen  again. The good thing is that you can slowly  rebuild  your  credit and enjoy life again. Personally I think financial  problems  can such the life out of you . Just learn from  it. I bought a house in 2010 and just last year got my first c card. I just learned to save money and pay cash. I've been offered cards shortly after filing for bankruptcy,  but was not willing to  pay the interest  rates  offered. For me...I got a lot of satisfaction from not accumulating more debt. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies . As I stated earlier, I just came across this site last week...Friday to be exact. I am still in the research, and education  phase. I'm definitely  going  to become a investor, but my plan is to be patient  so as to not start off on the wrong foot.

I am fortunate  enough to know several people that are professional investors and are willing to spend some time mentoring and giving me experienced advice. I am meeting  with  one  tomorrow. His family has been in R.E. for three generations, since 1939 and he is doing property management for their company. It is a local company, so He knows this area well.

As I move along,  I am sure I will be asking many questions on this site. Thanks to all replies. I feel really good about joining Bigger Pockets and look forward to learning from all the many resources.

Thanks again for all your  help in advance,

Tom

Hi,my name is Tom Underwood .I live in Mooresvlle, NC,but am from Winston-Salem ,NC. I have little experience in R.E. investing other than purchasing homes to live in.My goal is to buy a rental home within the next year.I plan to re - invest my cash flow into my next buy.Eventually I would like to create a cash flow of at least $1000.a month. I did a search on R.E. books and came across BP.com a week ago.I have been engrossed in the site ever since.I'm really glad I did.
