@Steven Lowe  Look at the exchange rate of every currency in the world since the pandemic, everyone's in worst shape than we are.  USD has been going up (right or wrong), but what you said is not happening.  If anything, I can go buy a house in Sydney cheaper now than it was two months ago.

You don’t have to believe me, you can look at the flight plan yourself on the chopper.

I live nearby in San Jose, I can tell you they are not doing that.  Stop listening to rumors and fake news.

With all the complaining, I don't see anyone talking about what would happen to their precious job if we had stayed the course.  I can tell you retail businesses will either shut down due to the lack of business or it will have to stop operating if employees are getting infected left and right.  A small company won't have the cash to pay everyone on sick leave.  A big company isn't going to deal with the liability of having employees dropping left and right.  The situation sucks, just deal with it for 2 months the best you can and hope that we can recover as quickly as possible.  No one is crashing the economy because they want you to stay home.  You think the government officials want to listen to you whine and moan.  Give me a break.

Here are two excellent examples of government overreach in this "crisis":

1. From a high school friend of mine who lives in San Jose, CA:
"So does Shelter-In-Place mean I can’t be out side gardening in my backyard or working on my house and doing stucco and fixing possible leaks in walls??? Apparently so. I noticed the San Jose Police Helicopter circling above Glider Elementary School (now closed, since June 2018) when 2 officers enter my open gate on my side yard to tell me that only emergency construction was currently allowed. I pointed out to them that the only reason of a possible spread of the virus was because they came into my back yard without a mask.. I told them to leave... Eventually they did... After I got a warning... I said they didn’t have permission to come onto my property... They said they announced who they were.l and asked me to get off of the ladder... I said, “why am I going to run away?” Or are you going to shoot me... Obviously, I’m a danger to them if I have a trowel of stucco in my hand... When did it become the interest of the police to stop someone applying stucco on the back of his house... but it’s okay for everyone and his dog to take a walk?????"

2. [Headline] Springfield, Greene County leaders loosen some restrictions on stay-at-home order
That "loosening" boils down to this: "Springfield Mayor Ken McClure said many businesses previously deemed “non-essential” will be allowed to take orders via telephone or the Internet. Those businesses will also be allowed to fulfill the orders through shipping, delivery, or curbside pickup, effective immediately."
Those restrictions should never have been put in place, and are exactly what the people who are protesting are reacting to. For a little perspective, Greene County has a population of about 300,000, 85 virus cases, (39 active) and 7 deaths.

Good luck to you guys.  I have immediate family that work in the casino.  Even though she is union and has relatively low wage, but I am concern she will be on the chopping block.  While Vegas has a bigger problem, but other states have been loading up on casinos too.  The local gamblers will only go so far to support them.

As much as I want her to keep her job, but I would ask her to stay home rather than taking the chance to get infected if we are opening casinos without proper precaution or the virus under control.  Her casino didn't allow staff to wear masks or gloves.

@Guy Bouchard This pandemic is putting a huge spotlight on our medical and economic system.  The whole world had been under investing in healthcare for the sake of more profit, now it is backfiring right in our face.  We can send rockets to the moon, but we can't make cheap masks in this country because we outsourced everything for the sake of saving money.  Let's see if we will see real change after this is over or are we going back to more of the same.  I personally think it will be the latter.  We can put as much stimulus as we want, but real economic recovery can't really happen unless we eliminate the virus or have vaccine like you said.

@Tom Makinen things are changing daily that's for sure.  I'm hopeful our entrepreneurial spirit will drive innovations in response technologies moving forward.

I don’t doubt we can solve it.  Unfortunately it is beyond solving a simple problem.  There is all the politics, misinformation, self believe, self preservation that goes above it.

Sorry that was earlier numbers reported in March, the numbers have come down in April.  The numbers is highly depended on how well you test and where you are.  You don’t have a case if you don’t test.  The diamond princess had reported a high rate in feb, they subsequently revised it.

@Tom Makinen where are you getting those numbers?  I'm seeing much lower numbers quoted in very recent articles including what @Victor S. shared.  Here's one from Forbes.

I'm not saying you're wrong to be worried, but if you're going to argue with someone based upon numbers you made up, that's not helpful.

What’s your solution?  Let people run wild and live their normal lives.  What if I was a carrier, I put my hands down on the slot machine, the handle in the bathroom, on the tip I give to the waitress, who might spread it to your beer when she serves you.  Ro of 12-18, compare to the common flu of 2-3.  Google what it means if you don’t know, watch a movie if you have to.

@Guy You forgot to mention Macau was pretty much in a lockdown before.  They isolated their sick and were able to isolate new inbound people.  Once you isolate the sick people, it’s a lot easier to manage as you eliminate person to person from inside the city.  We are somewhat isolating, but unfortunately not enough and people will drag this on for another month.  The less dense states are probably ok in early mid May, big cities will be much longer.

If you have so much time, maybe you can pick up a medical paper and learn what the Ro rate is for the coronavirus and why it is dangerous.  At the rate of the current spread, it is easy to have the virus spread from one person to 10+ person.  This is how you go from case, cluster and then the community is screwed.  As if it isn't bad enough, let's say your community has enough hospital bed for 1% of the population  (I can tell you the answer is way less).  What if 2% of the population is infected within a 2 weeks period.  Where the hell are you going to put them?  You want to contain them at home, oh great, who is going to monitor them?  What about their family?  They would become spreaders too.  It's not hard to figure it out.  I can't believe people don't understand this.  Oh yeah, grandma fell and need emergency surgery.  Guess what, she won't be able to get one because the hospital is overwhelmed.  It's basic math.  I am not even going to get into how you can be a carrier and spreader without symptoms.

Wyoming has more farm animals than people, you are going to compare them to NYC?  (I should say I think some people behave worse than cattles though).

The Dow was at an all time high before the shelter in place.  You think they would use it to crash the stock market?  Do people actually believe in this crap?  I would think that anyone with half a brain can figure out why it doesn't make sense.

Who’s being selfish? The only way the shutdown affects me is I’m bored. I’m the one thinking of people losing their jobs, their homes and their retirement because of a selfish government mandated shutdown. I assume you’re kidding Tom, or didn’t read the previous posts about 60% of our tourists drive or the posts about nobody is staying home because they are scared. People were at the casinos here after other states shutdown, they stayed until the governor made them close. Or noticed we’re averaging less than 20 deaths a week. Way less than smoking, suicides, overdoses, etc that nobody is worried about. Ps. You do realize they are counting every pneumonia death, flu death, and even every possible covid death as the cause of death.

Remember when the estimate was 2 million in the US alone, then 1.2 million, then a couple hunddd thousand, now its 60k? Remember AFTER the stay at home order the California governor still predicted 25 million California cases with 5 million in the hospital? It sure looks like the average cost per life saved is going to be north of $10 million. I wonder if that coulda been better spent?

Ps. Wyoming has been shut down for 6 weeks over 1 death. Does that sound logical?
