I always love to see Iowans join:) and I think Des Moines is a great market to get started in. Brace yourself for a landslide of info and new ideas here! I noticed you mentioned buy and hold (which is what I'm after too). If you haven't already been there, I'd recommend stopping by Ben Leybovich's blog. His lessons on capital expenditures would've saved me thousands if I'd heard them in time.

Cheers!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! Matthew do you own your rentals in Iowa? Not too many of us in corn country on BP I don't think 😉. I'll be sure to check out the blog as well as the other wealth of information on BP. Such a great site!

Hello everyone!

My name is Tom and I stumbled upon BP through YouTube and listening to the podcasts. I've always had an interest in personal finance and taking control of your financial future instead of hoping market returns are favorable (hope is not a strategy). Real estate investing had been something I've thought about for a while now and I'm at a point in my life where I'm ready to take the next step and become an investor! I live in Des Moines, Iowa and I'm looking to build a portfolio of buy and hold properties in the Des Moines area (single family, duplexes, multi family) that will generate positive cash flow now as well as provide a solid source of income later in life. I have the desire to learn about all the nuances of RE investing and the will to succeed! Educating myself is the first step to starting my journey and it's incredible to have all of you to bounce ideas off of and lend a helping hand when needed. As I gain experience and feel more comfortable in doing this, hopefully I will someday be able to help others as well. We are all in this together and I'm very glad to have found this community!
