I guess this thread was revived recently, so I might as well give an update:

Wasn't having much luck in the Seminole Heights area, so I ended up buying a 3/2 1300 sqft fully renovated home for $259k in St. Pete (Disston Heights to be exact) in July of last year. Love this area. Personally, I like it a lot more than Tampa. Reason being is in St. Pete you get the best of both worlds. I'm less than 10 minutes from Downtown St. Pete and 15 minutes from the beaches. However, just like Tampa, prices in St. Pete have been going crazy as well. A house nearly identical to mine on the same block just sold for $330k. Wild.

I lived in Orlando for 9 years, then Gainesville for the last 5 years. Now, I'd like to buy a home in Tampa. My budget is only $250k for a 3/2, so areas like Hyde Park and SoHo are too pricy. I've looked into Ybor a little bit, and there seems to be a lot of good and bad. Can somebody with familiarity of the Tampa neighborhoods let me know which neighborhoods are the most up and coming and which I should stay away from? This will be my first home purchase and I plan on living there for at least 5 years. Thanks in advance! Go Bucs!
