I bought a piece of land this way from a county and did really well (10x) by buying at the bottom and selling at the top. I've even read about a couple in San Fran. that landed a major property because some HOA failed to file property taxes and the real estate was acquired legally (even though the residents in the HOA were angry) for pennies on the dollar.

Timeshares go for nothing this way and many many people let them go by not paying the property taxes.

Good call. I've looked at the timeshare resale sites but have not looked into timeshares through local govt. Should i be looking anywhere in particular for these deals?

The wife and I recently took a trip down to Disney with our two kids. Needless to say, it was our first trip there as a family and everyone else realized what I already knew. That is that Disney is magical and we want to go back! We have looked into timeshares and the DVC. Looking at the costs, I recommended that we look into investing in a STR, possibly a condo. The goal would be to have a place to stay when we visit, and rent out the rest of the time. We would visit off season. Does anyone have experience doing this, or maybe have a recommendation of where to look? My thought is breaking even would be a win.
