Hey everybody! My name is Robert and I am new to RE investing. My wife and I recently did a cash-out refinance of our current home. We have about $150k in cash to work with. We live in Portland, OR. The prices here seem to be ridiculously high, with houses selling $10-15K over asking price. We have considered doing a house hack somewhere nearby, but the prices on 2-4 unit properties are very high. We are also considering investing in the San Antonio, TX area (even up into Austin) because we have some family there and have lived there in the past. Prices are more affordable in San Antonio. Our goal is passive, positive cash flow. So here's my questions:
1. What's the best way to get started RE investing with our current cash position?
2. Single-family homes or 2-4 unit properties?
3. Portland? Texas? A mix of both?
4. What are the rental markets like in San Antonio/Austin?
I would even be interested in partnering up with someone on a few deals to get my feet wet.
