We have been on the lookout for the past 5-6 months for a primary home. There were very few homes in our market during Jan-March, and April seems to be a bidding war on the few homes(still not that many) that are popping up(between 40-60k on 250-300k homes) from the previous estimates 6 months ago. We are so frustrated that we are ready to cave in and pay whatever to own a house. Just wanted to seek opinions here on whether we should still hold on for a few more months or not. We do not have a real urgency(no school going children etc), but would like to move to a home sometime in the near future.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Thanks to everyone for their responses. Would you be able to recommend a RE agent  familiar with the Medical Center and nearby areas?

Don't forget flooding. check the new fema maps , flood zones have been updated in Houston and surrounding areas.

Thank you, appreciate that . Will most definitely take a look.

Btw the med center is the med center. 20 minutes from the med center can be very far depending on traffic.

Sorry, I realized that I hadn't given enough info.

I am open to most property types - SFH, townhomes, condos and also multiplexes as long as they can be cash positive long term. My criteria is to be able to reach Medical Center within 20 mins during peak traffic if I am driving(toll roads are fine too) , or up to 30 mins if taking light rail or commuter bus.The closer to medical center, the better - as long as the area is crime safe, free from flood, and can give me a positive cash flow/appreciation when I rent it out in the future.

I am moving from out of state, but I have previously lived in the West University area (abut 10 years ago), so I am somewhat familiar with the area.

There are scattered areas around there that are still high crime areas, but anything west of I-45 inside the 610 loop should prove to be a good investment long-term. If the crime bothers you, make sure to do thorough research before you buy.

Thank you for your advice. Crime does bother me, especially when I am staying there for a year. The other concern is flooding.

Hi All,

I am looking to buy a property in Houston Medical Center area (or commutable distance of 20 mins) where I can live for the next one year, and then rent it out. Any advice on the area and recommendation for agents is appreciated.

Thanks!
