@Les Jean-Pierre and @Lisa Coleman-Schmid are you happy to see people like Michael reforming neighborhoods like yours or one you grew up in?

I clearly see both sides. This is beyond my experience which is why I'm asking so many questions from those who have lived it.

LA Time city council just passed this.  I would write to your local city council members.  They didn't even bother discussing and it was voted unnanymously.

Doesn't allow property investors to do what they want.  It's from LA Tenants Union:

Tenants Together organizing in Sac tow.  Most landlords are actually 'boutique' smaller than 20 units.  The majority of us investors are just hard working people who want a nest egg in retirement.  Freedom of private property is all we want

Here's a group TenantsTogether that is heavily funded by a lot of political groups and lobbyists. They've been organizing like unions.  A lot of their subgroups claim they're "Unions"

Clarence do you know about these sorts of anti property rights groups in Inglewood:

It's possible it gets back I  the ballot in 2018, but we're good for now. ;)

Yes it got put on hold for 1 year.  It was due to investors like us writing to local and state politicians and getting active.  Some of the assemblymen like Bloom from Santa monica want to put on hold so they can 'rally the troops' and really push strict and strong rent controls.  They feel that if they had tried pushing for it now there was too much backlash from home and property owners.  It's time to get mobilized and active in Cali!

Tenants are already mobilized and active.  They have some renters conventions in Los Angeles and San Francisco scheduled for the Fall by 'TenantsTogether.org'

They want to completely make private property and private Housing a social issue even if it's private housing that we have invested so much in.

If they're going to build new affordable housing with taxes raised that's one thing. But to enforce their rules onto private property isn't even right

Hi Daniel,

Wonder which area of OC you are worrying about................

Santa Ana, Garden Grove, even Seal Beach has had discussions.  But Huntington had a lot of discussions and has a few active tenant advocacy groups that are pushing for 'grass roots' renters rights type groups.  They are sponstored by TenantsTogether.org but are manned by student volunteers mainly.

Here's another article I was forwarded about Good Politics vs Bad Economics of Rent Control

AB 1506

Rent Control Politicians attempting to expand California STATE WIDE

 @Takako the Buena Park area

@Susan Thanks for the info. I am familiar with parts of the Santa Ana area, and am not surprised.

Yes Daniel heard about Buena Park having a lot of very pro 'renter's rights' people in power.  They make it seem like it's the immediate solution but then it bites the whole economy in the 5-15 years.

It's the state assembly's AB 1506 (that will be voted on next year by the sacramento assembly) that will give a lot of cities power to cap rents.  It will negatively affect all housing and all in the industry.

Another article from last Friday about how rent control is actually bad for poor because it reduces affordable housing.  It's one of the reasons that rents in San Francisco and LA city get jacked up so much because landlords don't have a choice later to raise to market so they force rents up.

If you go to the city web page "sanjoseca.gov" and type rent control into their search box, you will probably get links to almost every discussion (2022 in this example).

City government web pages are constantly changing. You may run into broken links and have to guess where to find the info that used to be there.

Check this out Jeff on current laws
