Sold rental property 2 yrs ago that had ground rent. GR holder had not contacted me in 5 yrs. The title company held $1140 in escrow in case the GR Holder made a claim. I was told it would be released back to me in 3 yrs if he didn't.  Friday the title company called and said because of new MD law, they can release the funds now (1yr sooner than expected) and mail a check. Red flag went up when I was told that I needed to cash check as soon as possible. When I received the check it was only $788. As a deduction, it stated -$344 for "refund per MD law change" and -$6 with no explanation. I am assuming $6 is admin fee.  I don't understand the $344. Shouldn't I receive the total amount? Thanks in advance...
