I'm currently looking to move back to New Orleans after a decade working in Los Angeles (woohoo!).

ADUs are being built everywhere in Los Angeles and the only information I can find about them in New Orlean is Article 21 of the city building ordinance that states that accessory units may not be inhabited. If this is true and they are illegal, I wonder if the city will soon follow suit in legalizing ADUs to provide affordable housing.

Hard pivot - if we're interested in a house that is zoned for multifamily, how excruciating is the permit process & how restrictive are the building codes for converting a single family to multi for the first time?

Thanks for any help or advice!
