What an information-rich thread! We're looking to invest in W Michigan in the next few months, and have targeted Kzoo and GR. I'll now add Muskegon to our analysis.

Thank you, David! I've had folks advise me to stay out of the North Kzoo area for reasons that you mention. I do see some revitalization of the downtown area, which makes us hopeful. Kalamazoo does seem like an area with a good amount of potential.

My husband will be very interested to hear that your experience lines up with his analysis. Thanks again for chiming in!

Thanks, @Dan Farkas and @Nate Chucta! This is useful info. My husband really likes the numbers he's come up with on GR (he's a software/spreadsheet guy) and I really like the idea of being close to WMU (specifically renting to grad students, which is a population I know fairly well).

It's great to hear that both markets could work well for us! This is our first foray into out of state investing, and we're feeling pretty good about Michigan.

Nate, I'll DM you with some more specific questions about Kzoo. Thanks again!

Hello Michigan! My husband and I are investors from Seattle, and we're currently considering opportunities in Kalamazoo. We're specifically interested in purchasing small multi-family units close to WMU.

Any investors that can tell me a little more about what the market is like?

We're also looking at Grand Rapids, so if anyone has opinions on investing in Kalamazoo vs. Grand Rapids, I'd be happy to hear them!

Best,

Stephanie
