I think it's difficult to tell where we are right now in the economy overall. We've seen the DOW Jones index hit new highs and overall, the market looks strong. But has the market peaked? Has it peaked in the Real estate market? Is now the time to buy or the time to wait! What can we expect next?

@Ned Carey , Thanks for the insite! I Found out that there is a tax sale that is coming up in an adjacent county to my own. That being said, what should I have to be prepared when I show up other than my checkbook? I do understand the concept of tax lien certificates and how the process works. However, I'm less informed of how to be properly prepared going into a tax sale. Thanks again for the insite, Ned.

Thank You, Anastasia. I'm just wondering if when I show up to these events, if it's going to be a bunch or real estate brokers I'm bidding against. Something would suggest that they would have the upper hand.

I'm beginning to learn more and more about tax lien certificates. Being new to real estate investing, I'm a bit unclear how they work, or more so, who's allowed to participate in them. I've noticed on my MLS that there are several forclosures. Would these be tax lien certificates purchased by real estate brokers? Can real estate brokers participate in tax sales? Also, how can I find out about properties that have tax liens against them before a tax sale.

Thanks!!!!

Thank you all so much for your welcoming support. Gary, I appreciate that! I am in Pittsburgh quite often. I may reach out to you in the future! Eric, I'm looking at acquiring investment properties that I can rent out. Flipping is another option. I enjoy carpentry and have all my own tools so I think that aspect may also help.

My name is Spencer Herrick. I'm from New Martinsville, West Virginia, about a two hour drive southwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I help manage my family's furniture and appliance retail store and am currently working on completing my MBA with graduation in December of 2017. Up until now, most of my investments have been in stocks, mutual funds, and ETF's. I've grown tired of the slow gains in equity in the market, and thus have decided that maybe real estate investing may be a path to my future investment strategy. My goal is to purchase my first property within the next year, but in the meantime, learn as much as I possible can on the topic. I was introduced to BiggerPockets through a  friend who took me "under his wing" when he learned I was interested in investing in real estate. I'm anxious to learn more and more about this fascinating new endeavor in my life!
