Hey Derek,

I currently use Bonadio to do my accounting/taxes in Rochester, NY. They have been great thus far and are not expensive compared to the value they offer. They have a wide range of expertise when it comes to accounting and taxes. I plan to use them this coming tax season for my duplex investment. Hope this helps!

Hey Mopaz,

Happy to hear you're investing in Rochester. I am also an investor in Rochester, NY and am currently house hacking a duplex in the city. I would suggest you start looking in the 19th ward as there are many places available there and in the price range to do a BRRRR. I am currently trying to find a BRRRR to do a short term rental (e.g. Airbnb or VRBO) with in that area. I would also look in the South Wedge if I were you. The zip codes are 14611 and 14620. Hey,

I have been practicing using the BRRRR calculator to do a BRRRR STR (short term rental) after a BRRR and am not sure if these numbers could be correct or not. I know I might be underrepresenting the rehab and I know the following calculation still does not pull all my invested cash out, however I am happy with the cashflow that the STR would generate. Any tips or help is appreciated!

@Charles Brucato Congrats on your househacking deal! Sounds like you got a great deal during this crazy Rochester market. I'm actually from the Rochester area as well and just got my first duplex in early May of this year and am currently househacking the residence.

I'm not sure if you have looked into it, but being near the U of R, I am actually planning on buying another duplex to do Short Term Rentals (STR)s like Airbnb or VRBO near the University of Rochester in the next year or two.

On your next deal, if you're interested in purchasing in a similar area and potentially doing some short-term rentals, I'd be willing to see if we could partner up if not just networking to meet other real estate investors in the Rochester area. Another benefit I should mention is that with short term rentals, they usually cash flow much more than a single-family residence or long-term multi-family rentals and this would also allow you to scale faster.
