I am trying to make this short because I know how busy everyone is and I am hoping for some sound advice. I live in Japan with my Japanese husband. I am American. We own and operate a small English school here. We want to invest in RE in america in the buy and hold market to help supplement our retirement and hopefully be able to do it sooner rather than later. My Japanese brother in law is very wealthy due to his job which keeps him very, very busy. He has approached my husband and I about starting some sort of business that he can invest in to give him some security in case he were unable to work. I don't think he does anything with his money except for park it in a bank account and spend it. So I was thinking why can't we combine these two goals. I think my BIL approached us because of our connection to America and because he trusts us and has no time to look into anything himself. I would love to come up with a plan on how we could use his money to buy rental property in a way that would make it a good deal for him and for us. TIA

Hi Matt. Thanks for the sharing about the loan process. I'm sorry I can't be of any assitance. I have been kind of stalled because I found out I don't have any credit history in the U.S. When I moved to Japan almost 15 years ago. I paid off everthing and closed down all my accounts except for a savings account and a debit card. I had great credit at the time, but now it is almost like I don't exist in the U.S. All my credit cards are Japanese. So I got an American card and am trying to use it. I don't know how long it will take to make me look good on paper again. I am thinking about using an investor (a family member), but don't know quite how to set that up either. @Jerry W. Thanks for the advice. Your cowboy hat makes picking you out of the many Jerrys on the list much easier! My dad has a ranch in Wyoming near Newcastle.

Thanks for the greeting. We (my husband and I) haven't decided where to start investing. We don't know if we should focus on where we would like to live one day or just choose a good place to invest. Both scenarios leave a big question mark. I have family in the Phoenix area in AZ and in the Orange County area of CA as well as South Dakota and Wyoming. Any suggestions?
