Great! Glad I came back to check so I can catch this one. Thanks!

Any chance there's going to be a recording of this posted for us unlucky folks who couldn't make the time? I'd love to hear it if possible!

@Priti Donnelly Thanks for the welcome! I was actually looking into investments in Japan a short while back but decided I would rather invest state side just for the ease and convenience of it. I do love Japan though and I am really enjoying the exchange rate.

@Dmitri L. Thank you! I'm actually working down in Yokosuka. Not quite as glamorous as the Tokyo life that's for sure. Texas is a great choice. My top 3 states so fare are Florida Texas and Arizona. They all seem to hold cheap property and I like the warmer climates also. Also, congrats on your new purchase!

@Nick Brubaker Nice to meet you! I'm down in Yokosuka. Interesting to find out how many people are expats in Japan on this site.

Just realized that might be confusing so to clear it up, I'm a US citizen, but lived in other countries most of my life. So I will eventually be returning and investing in the states. I don't really have ties to any particular state which seems to be both good and bad.

Good Afternoon from Japan!

Hello everyone!

My name is Shawn, I'm a new member here, just signed up after reading forums for a few days. I've been to a few other forum sites and like the feel of the community here a little more. Some of the other communities seemed more interested in boasting about their super returns, selling their information books/seminars and less about helping others. This website and the people seemed a lot more inviting and interactive.

I'm currently overseas in Japan, been here off and on for a while doing contracting work. The whole reason I got here is because I've saved a nest egg and feel that real estate will be the best investment to help me reach my goal. My goal isn't to become a multimillionaire or to build a real estate empire, but to just own enough property to where I can live off the returns and retire at an early age on an average income. With that in mind it seems I'll be leaning more towards buy and hold investments with an interest more towards medium sized apartment complexes.

I'm sure I will be asking a lot of questions in the near future as a way to get my foot in the door. I do not know if I will be investing anything in the near future since I won't be leaving Japan for a year or two. Unfortunately that means I will not be able to provide much assistance to other members but rest assured I will be reading your posts and blogs. I hope that my one-sided interactions won't be looked upon too poorly given my lack of experience and location.

Thank you in advance for letting me join the community and I look forward to networking with you all!

Shawn
