We just bought our first STR in Daytona Beach Shores. It is a great single family with a nice pool. The yard is fenced, but there are 4 separate doors that lead to the back yard. We are currently updating the AC and furnishings. My question is what liabilities do we have for the pool? Does an alarm help, or make liable if it somehow fails? I'm not worried about people trespassing, I'm worried about renters.

We just looked at our dream house today in Daytona Beach Shores. It is a single family and I believe zoned residential( huge condo complex across the street). We planned on making it a weekly rental, but only renting it one or two weeks a month. We will be living in Orlando, but plan using the property often. We asked the agent about rental potential. He was not clear, but he thinks it can only be rented at 6 month minimum. I have read the local ordinance (bummer). I also have read of the recent law suit won by the city. My question is why do I see houses advertised for STR in Daytona? Are the just risking it? My heart says buy. My brain says walk away. ( we can't really justify the investment if we can't somewhat balance the mortgage.

Post: Look to buy first STR in Florida.

My wife and I are being relocated to Orlando. We are looking for a str within to 100 miles to invest and use for some weekends. We found some great properties in Daytona, but Rental restrictions are not str friendly.

What city do you recommend for affordability and rental potential.(Gulf or East coast) We are in the 250k range. (Also must be fog friendly) most HOAs don’t like viscous Golden Retrievers.
