I have put enough clues in the first post  that you can do google search and find the PM and the NASA references :-)

Also got additional info that the tenant who lived at the property  is  a convicted criminal on probation. The mugshot of the criminal available online doesn't match the picture in Driver License of the "tenant" who supposedly signed the lease. Whatever NASA technology  they used, seems like the PM  can't match the face of real person to the picture in DL !

Hello @Seby T.. I'm sorry to hear you have to go through this. It must be extremely stressful for you and many others going through similar issues. I think it would be difficult to go after the PM in this scenario, but I could be wrong.  While I don't have much else to offer, I am very interested in hearing what technology NASA uses for managing properties?  Did they give you any insight as to what that is?  My instinct is to laugh at that, but my curiosity is piqued.

It definitely looks like some one else was living there. The PM should have done the basic ID checking

The PM should have checked.   Was there anything in the unit to suggest someone else was living there (or the real name of the person they rented to)?

The court notice was served to the "tenant" at current address which is available as simple google search. The "tenant" is aware of the identity theft and have filed a police complaint as identity theft victim. It definitely looks like PM was negligent

What a craziness. Hmm. If they have never lived there, then how did they get a court notice about the hearing? It is mailed to the property. As per PM, normally we use Transunion or other channels for a background check. Paystubs, Landlord verification, ID. Then we interview the applicants. Finally, when we do a move-in inspection, we check the ID to make sure that we deal with the right "tenant".  See what was done first.  If you find that PM was negligent, then maybe you can seek a reimbursement for damages from the PM or PM's insurance.

Hello,

I am based in CA and have property in Daytona Beach, FL which was managed by a reputed property management company in Orlando, with glowing online reviews and markets themselves as using NASA technology for property management. They rented my property to a tenant and after one month, the tenant stopped paying, COVID hit and took an year to evict, property damages and loss of $20k +. Filed a court case for recovering rent and damages and the "tenant" showed up for the hearing saying she was a victim of identity theft and has never rented the property or lived there. What are my options here ? Isn't the property manager responsible for verifying the identity and doing proper credit check ? Should I file case against the property management company ?
