@Thomas Kershaw- as a foreigner, with limited capital looking to invest in the UK, you might want to consider crowdfunding options. There are a number of platforms that allow you to buy chunks of pre vetted RE investments- equity and/or debt, in different sectors and strategies. 

I have been doing this for awhile now in the US and more recently in the UK. - (Both very different CF markets.)

This could be a way for you to break into RE investing and diversify your holdings more easily.

In any event, always do the due diligence and run the numbers yourself.

Matt- welcome to the site.

I have been using Realtyshares for a while now- and am very happy with the results.

There are many threads on BP discussing RS and other crowdfunding sites- just use the search feature.

BTW - It looks like you may have two profiles set up here and here ? Whats the point or is this someone else ?

@Account Closed Thats a pretty old article from over a year ago. 

A lot of water has flowed under the crowdfunding bridge since then.

From my experience any investor needs to be accredited  @Jay Hinrichs

Not only that- I think that most wont accept foreign investors directly and require a US based entity as the "investing entity".

@Minh Ly - I would recommend taking a look at @Ian Ippolito's website (link in the post above) . This is an excellent place to begin learning about CF RE investing in the US. Ian has done some incredible work rating the different platforms and clarifying the differences and nuances between them. 

I am a non US resident like yourself and have found the crowdfunding RE space in the US a very effective investment avenue for me- Realty Shares is one of the platforms I use, but there are plenty others out there that you may want to look at as well - amongst them Patch of land, Fund that Flip, Acquire, Realty Mogul.

As an investor in the US as well as the UK - I can tell you that the markets and laws function very differently in the two countries. I think the first step is learning as much as you you can about your  market and defining the strategy you would like to focus on. As @Charles Maxwell said above- There are a lot of ways to make money in property.

You might want to take a look at the Property Hub - (which is an attempt at a UK version of BP). Another thing that may suit you and allow access to vetted opps at lower rates and greater diversity would be crowdfunding (Also very different in the UK compared to the US) - I am using Property Moose and Property Partner

Hi Richard - your crusade to defend Detroit is admirable - but even you always say that it takes more than a property manager in Detroit. 

 I don't warn people to "run" from Detroit, I warn them that Detroit is not for long distance investors, and I stand by that opinion. (Fact is that I have even met many local Metro Detroit  investors who wont touch inner city Detroit either - and they are over there on the ground.)

The particular thread you are referring to where I said "Run" - the out of state OP was asking for an opinion on an  MF deal they had been offered in Detroit. The deal was so implausible only an idiot would have looked further.

I cannot agree more with @Brian Sullivan. If he as an experienced local investor stays away- believe me- you should to.

Detroit is not for long distance investing.

@Sandro Sossi - I would suggest reviewing your contract and position with an attorney and considering your options. 

If you entered into a contractual obligation with a developer for a particular project and that developer failed to deliver, that could be a breach of the contract and you may be entitled to a refund irrespective if this appears on the contract or not. 

Always get your lawyer to look at the paper work before signing these kind of deals, and know your exit in worst case scenarios.
