Welcome Riquelmy S. ! Best of luck as you start your REI journey. Newbie from NYC here myself. So many great people on these forums to learn from. Would recommend getting your hands on some books if you haven't already. Brandon's book on rental properties has been a great resource for me as I gear up to do my first deal.

Super impressive Royal Liedecke ! How did you finance that first deal at 19? I imagine I could have been off to the races like you had I known the value of a dollar in my younger years. Caddying during summers provided me with tremendous earning potential at a young age but sadly I blew through that cash like it was going out of style. Oh well you live and you learn!

@Ali Boone Thanks and will do!

@Donna Genovese Since I grew up in that area I was thinking this may be a natural place for me to start looking. Taxes are definitely high in these areas though.

Thanks @Larry Fried and @James Wise!

@Craig Bellot will keep Bridgeport in mind for a potential area to invest in. Sort of familiar with the area as I used to play club soccer all around Connecticut growing up. Some rough parts in that city but I'm sure its navigable.

Thanks all for the warm welcome! @Jordan Sinclair @Account Closed I'm very much interested to hear your story/experience! Once I get educated enough to have some specific questions I'll definitely reach out.

Chris - This sounds very similar to my situation. Have a great job with my office in Manhattan. Super hard to house hack without adding a long commute. Moving out to the "burbs" is also going to require me to buy a car and then train commute. I'm sure I come out ahead $ wise (altho haven't run the #'s yet) by saving on rent but the added commute time will be hard with the amount of hours I'm working currently.

Hey everyone!

My name is Sam Sjoberg and I am currently residing in the concrete jungle that is Manhattan, New York. Currently, I work for a large RE Developer in a portfolio management role. Grew up in Westchester, NY and studied at the University of Maryland. I stumbled onto the BP podcast through the StockTwits Daily Rip email just a few weeks ago and have been hooked since. After binge listening for a few days, I bought and read through Set For Life and recently picked up one of Brandon's books to continue my education in the REI game.

I'm very excited to read through the forums and continue learning and meeting the community. I'm looking to do my first deal in the next 12-18 months, either a house hack or turnkey rental (potentially out of state). Interested in networking with others in the NYC area and around the country.

Working my way through the book right now. Picked it up after listening to podcast #223. So far so good! Well written and super informative with lots of actionable advice. Would definitely recommend.
