HI Joseph,

Thanks for that input, its nice to finally hear from someone who speaks well of the Section 8. It seems like a minefield from the stories I have heard and read. Because we are currently able to travel to the area ourselves, we are going to have to find someone on the ground to go and see the area we are looking at. Though I have no idea where to start in finding those connections....

The property we have been offered by a company over here is in an area which I am unsure of, so we need to keep doing the research.

Thanks again

Hi All,

The amount of information I am being sent, is overwhelming to say the least. Seems there is a lot to think about for a first timer. Also learning the terminology as it differs a lot over here in the UK.

One thing I am curious about is, after reading "The Ultimate Guide to Cleveland Neighbourhoods" what I cant help notice is that there are RED areas right next to Dark Green. Separated by a road? Not knowing the area, can it really be that different, but geographically that close?

I have been pointed in the direction of Euclid area, can anyone vouch for this area in general?

Many Thanks as usual

Sam

Hi All,

Thanks for the feedback, information from actual people who have done this is sparse in the UK. So its nice to get some information from people who aren't trying to sell me the houses.

I think I will avoid the Detroit area, I don't think I have heard a good word spoke about the place.

I am a bit confused, pardon my ignorance but @Robert Plumpe mentioned above Cleveland being a nicer place, and being a lot more prosperous, but also saying that investing there is a bad idea? Over here Cleveland is being marketed as "the place" to invest in, due to its continual growth.

I appreciate I am clueless at this, but just really liked the idea of starting a small property portfolio over there. Can anyone recommend a nice/easy area to invest in?

Thanks again for your help

Sam

Hi,

I am so new to this, so apologies if I appear like a fish out of water. My wife and I have stumbled across some properties for sale in Cleveland, also Detroit and possibly Atlanta. The properties are being advertised by a management company over here, and have the usual blurb, "Tennant already in place", "20% returns" etc. But we also have many forums warning us off of investing in areas like this.

Some say that they have gone months with no tenants, and that the details they get sent are false and in fact the house they own is in ruins.

We like the idea of doing this, primarily because the property price is cheap, but we don't want to lose £40k in doing so. I have read some of the discussions on here, but its aimed at the American buyer not English. Also can anyone guide me a little on what the Section 8 means. I understand its a government thing, but do any guarantees come with it?

Sorry for being a bit simple, but we are literally dipping our toe in for the first time.

Thanks

Sam
