Thanks for the guidance here everyone. I am realizing I may have positioned my original question improperly. Whom should I speak with if I have the following questions?

Since my mother gifted me her equity from the sale, does she still get taxed from the sale of the property?

Since the home was owned by my grandmother, inherited by my mother, gifted to me, how does that effect my tax base as it relates to parent > child exclusion?

(If it makes any difference, the sale was executed on 12/29/20, before prop 19 went into effect.)

Is a CPA or Tax attorney the right person here?

I've been having a hard time finding someone who would be able to advise me on a recent personal real estate transaction. I purchased a family home in CA from several family members (one of whom is my mother who gifted me her share of equity). Im trying to navigate how my tax base gets reassessed as it relates to this.

Wondering if anyone has recs.

@Alex Olson - Hey Alex - Definitely! So far have, the books I have checked out are: David Greene's  OOS book, Brandon's Ultimate beginners guide & Millionaire Real Estate Investor. I appreciate the systematic approach he laid out. While I do understand the risks and benefits to DIY vs turnkey, I'm still contemplating what my approach would be especially during current times. I know having someone on the ground in any given market is a key to success. Let's connect, would love to discuss when I'm further along in my process.

@Mark Pedroza - Thanks for the link! Yes, who knows... I feel folks are searching for any glimpse of normality, so hopefully meet ups start to spring up again soonish. I still find it very odd to meet new people and network without shaking hands, but these are the days we're livin'.

@James Wise - Thanks a ton for that info. I definitely have feel like I can overcomplicate my mental process when it comes to analyzing which market to dive into. I'll be taking a look at your guides on Cleveland and KC after this posting this!

@Tom Ott - Appreciate it! Happy to be here.

@Brian Garlington @Mike D'Arrigo - Thanks for the recs, checking meetup.com is a no brainier which didn't initially cross my mind. I was looking at the BP "events & happenings" page but haven't seen anything posted as of late.

Hey BP -- My name's Ryan Espinosa. A little about myself: I've spent the last 7 years trying to make self-driving cars (and now commercial trucks) a reality. Some hobbies of mine include: cycling, climbing and playing/making music [soon to include real estate as well ;) ].

Shameful fact, I actually have been signed up as a member since 2018, but only now am coming around to attempt to be an active member here. I'm finally feeling ready to take the plunge and expand my investment portfolio to include real estate! My current thinking is to find something SFH turnkey in an out of state market, as most of my time is dedicated to my 9-5 & newborn son.

A couple quick questions I have:

-What are folks currently doing in terms of REI clubs/meetups? Going to an event would have been one of the first tasks for me, but given our current state, I'm wondering how folks are creatively continuing to meet/network.

-Fellow Bay Area residents, any recs for groups to join up with? Hoping to find some opportunities to connect with other local bay area investors and talk shop... success stories, mishaps & all..

Thanks for reading!
