Welcome!

I've got four rentals in DFW and have helped a ton of BP and other investors here as well (around 50 or so investors in the last 15 months). Great place for the long term!

Hi Harrison, I would definitely like to pick your brain sometime. I'm sure I could learn plenty from you.

Quote from @Alicia Marks:

Welcome to BiggerPockets! I'm a DFW investor as well. I agree that using your VA loan to do some kind of househacking would be an amazing way to boost your goals.

I would absolutely love to do that Alicia, my wife on the other hand isn't as much. This might be an opportunity to work on some good negotiating skills though lol.

@Robert Wesley Kern glad to see another Marine on here! Feel free to PM me so we can connect. I'm happy to pass along any tips and advice on investing in the DFW market. There are several other Marine investors in the RE space that I can introduce you to as well.

Thanks Denver, expect that PM soon.

Quote from @Corby Goade:

Welcome, thank you for your service!

You have two advantages over most of us: your wife is already on board and you have a VA loan. Those are both HUGE!

You need to seriously consider house hacking annually using your VA loan, ideally a small multifamily. You'll have a big jump start and will be pleasantly surprised at the progress you can make in just a few years.

Lots of resources out there for vets who want to invest, do some digging.

Best of luck!

I would love to do that! Now if I could just get my wife on board with that lol.

Quote from @Joe Miller:

"Mostly to make my wife happy" LOL,

Great goal. Check out the BP books. They are great and are great in the learning phase. If you haven't yet definitely take advantage of your VA loan. It is a 0% down loan offered to veterans nationwide.

I've already started Joe, just finished The Book on Rental Property Investing and plan on reading the financing book next. Incidentally, my VA Loan is tied up in my primary residence already. If only I had started this journey earlier I probably would've been a house hacker lol.

How's it going BiggerPockets,

1. I'm based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and would like to begin my Real Estate journey here. (mostly to keep my wife happy)

2. My goal in joining this community is to build a network to help me start and build my Real Estate portfolio. I want to use that portfolio to get me out of my W2, spend more time with my family, and do the things that I want to do. I plan to do this through BRRRR investing and long-term buy and hold rentals to start, then expand my knowledge and further develop my strategy from there.

3. Fun Fact: I am leaving a 7-year career in the Marine Corps in October. I'm transitioning to another W2 but slightly more flexible.
