Hello BiggerPockets,
My name is Ryan Marceau as the title indicates, I'm a new member. After reading Rich Dad Poor Dad several months ago, I reevaluated my philosophy on investment and retirement planning... and life in general (which may have had something to do with turning 30 as well). Since then, I've been amassing as much knowledge as I can get my hands on regarding real estate investment. Each book, post, podcast has led to increased desire to focus on building my real estate investment portfolio.
I stumbled upon BiggerPockets after signing up for a guru coaching program (one that cost about 8k). After making a down payment I had a pit in my stomach and sought out some reviews (I should have done that first, but I got sucked into the pitch). That search brought me to BiggerPockets. After discovering the wealth of knowledge that is BiggerPockets, I immediately cancelled the coaching (yes, they refunded me).
Since then, I've listened to every podcast, read several blogs and posts as well as downloaded/purchased several recommend books. And yes, I read the Beginners Guide too ;)
More about me:
BA in Psychology
MA in Industrial/Organizational Psychology
Currently have a FT job in the Boston area. Though my FT job has nothing to do with real estate, it has provided me with many transferable skills.
Plan:
My goal is to become financially independent (enough cashflow to pay all bills and live comfortable) within the next 10-15 years. Is that realistic? It is if I believe it is, and I do. Success would be early retirement and the ability to pass on a lucrative portfolio and business to my family.
My first step is to purchase a small multifamily near Boston and become a live-in landlord. From there I intend to rapidly build a portfolio leveraging partnerships and possibly revenues generated from flipping and wholesaling (with the right partners). I'll know I'm on track if I can leave my FT job within 5 years.
Of course, "plans are useless, but planning is indispensable" (Eisenhower). So, I will plan and re-plan as the environment changes and I learn more.
I'm looking forward to being an active member of the BiggerPockets community, seeking advice, sharing success and failure stories, as I proceed forward.
Thank you for all the valuable insights you all have already shared via BiggerPockets!
Cheers!
Ryan
