@James Klafehn, I have read several of your posts and you seem extremely knowledgeable.  I am a complete newbie and need to make a decision regarding a home that I currently own.  I have about 100k in equity in the home and I am trying to decide whether to sell or rent.  I am looking to buy a multifamily home and am not sure if it would be better to sell my home and use the proceeds to buy my first investment property or if I should and can use the equity to buy my first "investment" property.  I would appreciate any advice, like I said, I am a total newbie and I appreciate the advice you gave Jay Yiu, it is pretty much the path I was thinking I would be comfortable with.

@Manuel Duran  Welcome Manuel!  I am also a newbie and am about 10 minutes from you.  I am very interested in purchasing a duplex/multifamily in the near future in our area.  I would love to hear about your experience purchasing your first investment property and how it is working for you!

@Shawn M - thanks!!

Thank you Paul for that wealth of information!  I will check into all of those tips and get started!! That is all very helpful.

Hello Shawn and thank you, I am in the process of reading The Beginner's Guide and taking notes and I just set my keyword alerts!

Thank you Peter for the tips, I will be sure to hook up with any local REIAs.  I appreciate your feedback.

Hello Bigger Pockets Community,

Happy New Year to all!  I am new to Bigger Pockets and would like to take the time to introduce myself.  I have made the decision to take the jump into real estate and I found Bigger Pockets through searching the internet for helpful websites, etc.  I am so overwhelmed by all the information, I don't even know where to start!  If anyone has any advice for a Newbie, I would absolutely appreciate it.  My goal for this year, 2015, is to acquire a duplex rental property and acquire a single family home (cape) to flip.  I am excited about my decision to pursue real estate.  I know that in order to be successful, I will have to devote a lot of time to this which I am prepared to do!  I look forward to hearing from you all and I will be sure to follow the many discussions and take advantage of all the information that is right here at my fingertips.
