I did not contact one yet, as I mentioned. Getting familiar with their expertise, how they interact with potential customers and their general availability is useful, however. I don’t wanna wait until I need one to scramble and make desperate phone calls; sounds like a recipe for disaster.

I did, minus the contractor. Still have to speak with the property manager and wanna get a few referrals from them as well to add to my interview list. Should I still have one even if I don’t plan on doing renovations or major repairs?

Thank you both, this is super helpful.

And @Nathan Gesner - you answered another question I had about whether or not I should expect the property manager to provide the lease agreement!

Hi - pardon the ignorance here but I am looking to buy my first investment property out of state (in Houston, TX). When I am interested in a house, is there someone I can hire or work with to visit the property and such? Should I expect the agent I’m working with to do this, and how (if at all) can I involve a property manager for upgrade recommendations and how much I can expect to rent the property for as a second opinion, etc?

Should I solely rely on myself for all of this?

Trying to fully understand each player's role in the process leading up to the closing. Thank you!
