We've had a great experience with Rose Turco with Just In Time Realty and Property Management.

We use First Citizens (based in Raleigh) for our free business checking account. No minimum balance, and not an interest-bearing account. At least this was the case when we signed up a few years ago.

We have decided to move forward with selling the property (full acre with the house) and are collecting offers now. If anyone is interested and wants more info about the property, please send me a message.

Thank you, all! This is very helpful. It looks like we have a bit more research to do.

My husband and I are getting ready to sell his former primary residence, a 2 bed/1 bath brick ranch on a full acre in RTP, about 7 minutes from downtown Durham. The house is situated so that another house (possibly two?) could be built next to it.

We're weighing some options and hoping to get some advice. From a numbers perspective, would it make the most sense to...

  • Subdivide and sell separately one or two parcels of land (rather than sell the full acre with the house)?
  • Contact local builders and make an off-market deal with them (rather than putting it on the market in a traditional way)?
  • Have a non-traditional arrangement with a builder, such as allowing them to build for free on the land in exchange for a predetermined amount at sale plus a share of the profit?

I should mention that we're also open to keeping the house and renting it, but selling the rest of the land. The house needs a bit of work to make it rent-ready.

We greatly appreciate any thoughts or experiences you can offer!

Hah! Ashleigh, don't pay @Tucker Cummings any mind :)

I've house hacked in Raleigh for a while now, and like you, I lived with my parents while I saved everything I could for a down payment. I will echo what others have said – you have a lot of options here, and there's no right or wrong answer. If I can help answer any questions you have, don't hesitate to connect.

@Igor S. Is this still happening despite the weather?

I bought a large townhouse in Raleigh with a walkout basement about 10 years ago and have been successfully house hacking it since. As Chris mentioned, multis aren’t very common here.

I’m a newbie as well, but feel free to reach out if I can answer any questions about Raleigh. It’s a growing, vibrant area.

I'm interested too. See you all then!
