Hey @Fred A. , have you spent a lot of time in McAllen, or are you new to the area? And of course, welcome to BP!

Hello BP,

As I'm looking to get my Real Estate career started in 3-6 months, I was curious to see how many of you guys started out in your investing careers.  I'm curious to see if most investors started as agents, lenders, lawyers, CPA's, contractors, wholesaling, or something not "Real Estate related". Or if you just jumped into investing with no real prior experience in the industry, that's something I'd like to know too!

The reason I'm asking is because I'll be moving across the country in two weeks (NY to Southern Texas) and I have options available to me as far as jobs are concerned, and if there a better place for me to start than another, I'd like to know before I dive in!

You're responses can be anything from one word to a paragraph explaining where you started.  Anything is appreciated!

@Joseph Pytcher  Haha, I can't say I blame your mom.  People keep asking me if I'm nervous to move so far across the country, after which I explain that not having to move/drive through 7 feet of snow every winter is helping to calm my nerves!

@Matthew Weiser  Thanks for the welcome, Matthew!

@Jeff Greenberg  I checked out those properties on your website, they're beautiful looking buildings.

@Jeff RantaThanks Jeff! Would love to know more about your insights into the Texas market, do you have property there?

@Dmitriy Fomichenko  Thanks so much, Dmitriy! Definitely helps to have people willing to help me navigate the site :)

Thank you all for the warm welcome, I'm definitely excited to see what BP has to offer!

@Joseph Pytcher What brought you down to Texas from Jamestown? I'm actually from Syracuse, but have a few good friends from that area.

@Paul Timmins It's going to be quite a change, but I'm excited to see what kind of market there is down in RGV.  What kind of property do you have in Harlingen?

Hello BP!

My name is Paul Gioeli, I am 23 years old and just recently graduated from Binghamton University in upstate NY.  I've been on BP for a while, reading through a lot of articles and forum posts, and finally decided to introduce myself to the community that is so diverse and experienced!  I graduated with a Bachelors, having two concentrations in Finance and Marketing. I have been working at a local commercial real estate brokerage for over a year and have my NYS real estate license.

My real estate investing goals involve building as passive an income as I can manage (I'm not completely sold that there is a "Four-hour Work Week" out there, but I do agree with a lot of the ideas Tim Ferris put forth in his book).  I think that a goal of achieving an additional $1000/month of income every year is a good way to start.  I'm thinking that doing some flips first might not be a bad idea, just to build up some capital.  Of course, suggestions will be met with open arms!

I will be moving to McAllen Texas in less than a month, and I can't tell you all how excited I am to move to a new place and start getting to know new people! If any of you are in the South Texas/Rio Grande Valley area, let me know! It'd be great to meet up and talk anything and everything REI :)

Thanks guys, I'm really excited to get the ball rolling!
