@Jonathan Child I am absolutely finishing college first. I go for free and receive housing stipends because I am veteran and I use the GI bill. I receive a disability pension and I have been saving since I was in the military. I will finish college debt free but I want to broaden my resume with the license. How did you buy your first property?

@Jonathan Child thank you for your advice! Did you begin investing before you had it? Does it make it easier in anyway? Is there access to more inventory as a real estate agent ?

Is getting a real estate license on the side while attending college beneficial for long term investing? What are the steps for acquiring one and how long does it take?

My name is Peter Bogdon, I am 25 years old from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I am veteran of the United States Army. I served for 4 years and deployed one time to Iraq. I am currently a student studying business administration at Montgomery County Community College and I live in Royersford with my girlfriend and dog. I am new to real estate investing and I am looking to get started.

I have been saving my hard earned dollars and investing in the stock market since I was 21 and I know I am going to take the next step and be a real estate investor. I am currently in college, I attend school for free through veteran benefits and I receive a healthy pension check every month for some events that I’ll take with me the rest of my life from the service. All in all, I’m in a good position to build an excellent portfolio but I need help and I know I need help. I am at a point where I am accumulating as much knowledge of real estate as I can and how to invest in it. I have an initial plan to buy my first house in which to occupy for the duration of college (I am a sophomore) and I plan to place it on the rental market within 5 years. During which I want to learn how to fix things in a house myself and take time to learn the market which I will be in as well as build cash. I am finishing my first two years of community college in the spring and I will then be transferring to a 4 year university in either Tennessee, North Carolina or Pennsylvania (where I currently reside). Is this a good plan ? It’s hard to find validation since all of my peers are still living with mom and dad, have no money and have no understanding of my future plans. It’s frustrating. I am glad I found this forum and I hope to continue to learn as much as possible from anyone I can.
