Hi all - I am from, and currently reside, in the south Bay Area (Sunnyvale). I am very new to real estate investing but very excited about it and was told it would be a good idea to find some local REIA or regularly occurring local in person events for the purpose of networking with local investors and like-minded individuals. I am having a hard time finding any official REIA around here after a brief online search. Anyone in this area aware of any such group(s)? Thank you!

Hi @Wilson Lau! Thanks so much. Good to know. Yes, aware of REPS and something to consider possibly for my spouse in future if life allows for it. I’ll shoot you a message soon to chat. Thanks!

Hi Becca! Really appreciate the thoughtful post. I will definitely reach out to you in next few weeks as, in a perfect world, it would be nice to have the investment properties within an hour or two drive (Sacramento is one option I want to look into and will also consider some of the other cities you mentioned) of the South Bay Area where I live. Thanks again :)

Hi Dan! Thanks for your thoughts. Lots to unpack there. Appreciate your input. It does seem syndications are among the most hands off options for RE investing. One main downside that I see with syndications is the fact that they don’t provide ongoing long term dependable cash flow, which is what I really am aiming for if I want to be able to afford to cut down my hours. Will keep educating myself.

Quote from @Neil Ginty:

Hey @Payvand Milani

Similar situation! My wife's a doc! We've found doing value add to be a way to force appreciation and add cash flow when we got our house… we added an ADU and house hack with a midterm rental to generate the additional income and make a bigger home actually affordable but still flexible for when family visit

Thanks for sharing, Neil! That’s great to hear. We bought our townhouse (overpaid due to competition in the context of super low interest rates, and no rehab needed) in Sunnyvale in 2021. Currently don’t have the funds nor setup/space to do a house hack but good to keep in mind for the future if the opportunity presents itself!
