Post: Insurance for new build SFR in Southwest Florida

Hello,

I am closing on a new build/rental in SW Florida within the next month and the homeowners insurance policy quote was only $76/month. I live in Texas. Am I missing something? The policy is decent but seems like it should be WAY more due to hurricanes and the recent storm. Other than flood insurance, is there anything else I should consider? Thanks in advance

@Ivan Barratt Good advice. Attended a networking event today in Austin recommended by a BP member and there were a lot of folks that have been in the game for a while. So far so good, they were all helpful. The presentation went over bad and good deals in a very objective way. Also found out that Sumrok’s program has a buy-in that is a much lower dollar amount for passive investors.

If any new folks are reading this I recommend getting “plugged in” if you are serious about moving forward. It’s definitely going to be a marathon and a half, not a sprint. It’s a ton of information to learn but the people I met were all very helpful. Got a long way to go. I’ll update this thread when I attend Sumrok’s event and anything else I find relevant between then and now

@Mike Taravella Thanks for the input. I’m still learning BP. I’ll check out that section for sure

@Kris Wong Thanks for the input. At this point I will go to more events, including the Sumrok event, and pick everyone’s brain. This all got started when I met a retired guy a couple of years ago that got his start with Lifestyles Unlimited, makes incredible amounts of money, and is living a great life. So I know it can turn out great.

Having said that I’m getting more pushback on the idea from BP members than expected and it sounds like there are more local resources out there than previously known.

If anyone else would like to chime in I would appreciate your input!

Thanks for the responses. I have been licensed in Real Estate for 9 years but don't practice, only do my own transactions. I have a background in lending/banking and I'm comfortable with underwriting, terms/concepts, and numbers. We currently have two rental properties in Austin, TX and want to scale it up to Multifamily. The thought process was first become a passive investors and than syndicate when we have the experience from underwriting the deals that I would have access to if we were to join. Do you know of any avenues that will provide access to a steady flow of deals to underwrite (and gain experience)?

My wife and I are attending a Multifamily event this March by one of the big name investors. From my understanding its more than $20k to access his existing network of deals, investors, contractors, real estate agents, etc... Is it worth it?
