Post: Should I buy a condo to rent out?

So I plan on getting into the rental business. I noticed the prices of condo units are much lower than the single family homes in the surrounding areas. I am thinking it would be much easier to rent out a condo versus a single family home from a financial stand point. What do you guys think? What are some things I need to think about and research on if I go this route? What are the pros and cons?

Thank you @Don Daniels for the tip, I really like your idea. I'm now considering both avenues. I may just split the focus on wholesaling towards my wife, while I'll focus on rental properties.
and Thank you @Dave Visaya, I will definitely take advantage of the vast knowledge that is available from this site

Hello Everyone! My name is Paul Nguyen and currently living in Oviedo, FL. My wife and I are excited to take on this new journey in real estate investment! I am currently a pharmacist and have no experience in real estate. My wife just recently became a realtor and introduced the idea of supplementing our income through real estate investing. I was intrigued by the idea but what really made me want to jump on this train is when I found out my mom just bought 3 rental properties that I know of in the last 1-2 years. I would like to get in the same business as my mom but she doesn't seem all that interested in showing me the ropes so here I am on this forum. I am hoping to learn all I can through this forum before going out and into the field. My biggest fear is buying a bad deal. So my current objective is to start with wholesaling at first. It seems like that niche is the lowest risk for starting out based on what I have been reading and watching. So hopefully I can get my feet wet with wholesaling and within 1 year own one rental property that provides at least $400 a month cash flow. I am not sure if this is considered a good plan or not but that's my current goal as of now. I hope I did this introduction properly lol, this is basically my first time signing up for a forum as well. Anyways, thank you all for allowing me to join this community!
